Painting at Key Route Blv and Blake Garden

Last week we went to Key Route Blvd in Albany to paint.  I loved the way the houses looked against the grey sky and the shapes in the manicured gardens.  Ling came but I guess did not love it as much as me so went on to Blake garden where he did this lovely watercolor.  We will schedule the group there soon.

The EPA's Building on Meeker Slough

The white Environmental Protection Agency's building can be seen near the horizon in this 15 x 30" oil I painted with the group back in February. It took me a while to decide the floating trash on the Meeker Slough should be a part of this painting, so I didn't scrape it from the foreground.

Spring at the Albany Bulb

What a wonderful morning at the Albany Bulb.  We could paint there for a long time if the weather holds. So often it is too windy. We will go back next week.  This came together just at the end when I was able to remove most of the details of the view.    Karen

Saturday painting Nortonville, California

MIDDLE HARBOR, CRANES WITH PALETTE KNIFE

At Middle Harbor Park, I let loose with palette knives on a small canvas. The industrial cranes fly over the new silver and white glistening span of  the Bay Bridge and land near the autumnal colored shipping containers. I feel personally attached to Middle Harbor Park as I realized that this park is built on the site of the Oakland Naval Station where my father was stationed during WWII.  I could imagine him standing and looking out onto the San Francisco Bay and commenting on it's beauty.

Painting at Middle Harbor

Middle Harbor park is right next to the Port of Oakland.   The city looms across the bay and huge ships move slowly by. We had two nice sessions there and plan on going back next week.  There are great contrasts in landscape and man made structures.  Lisa Greenstein sent this painting in oil on board that beautifully describles some of the contrasts and especially shows the wonderful sky we had after the rain the day before.
