Carol and Lisa on Clark Trail

Not sure exactly how big is this canvas, perhaps 24 x 30." What I do know is that this is my first oil outdoors after several months. Without the figures, this would have been a terrible composition. So I finished Carol and Lisa first, because I knew they would leave or move. I completed the hills and sky on a second visit, and did not revise it at all once it got to my studio. However, now that I see it here, I might work on the sky, which looks quite anemic.

Yellow Car Corner of Santa Rita and Appian Way

Today we painted in El Sobrante. It was a busy little shopping center just at the end of lunch hour.  There were a few groups of men hanging out drinking near the church and at first it seemed like not a good place to set up. But after awhile the crowd left and I put up my easel at the corner with a view of the church and a closed auto repair shop.  This large yellow car sped by.  It is an 18 by 24 acrylic. Karen

Cardoon Growing on a Clark Trail Gully

It was a perfect morning for painting, and we settled by a path dodging an enormous gully. I kept looking for a good spot that would show the true size of zigzag-shaped opening, but no luck, so I settled for this view of the hills. Dennis was nearby and I put him in the picture. I had an 18 x 24" canvas and I used acrylic because I was tired of painting in oil after last Saturday's trek.

Clark Road, Wildcat Canyon

This was a very umbrella or mushroom shaped Buckeye tree with Lichen covered branches and brand new foliage. The trick was getting the lichen to stand out without losing the umbrella shape. I continue to experiment with textures on this, using the toothbrush spatter to soften the dry-brush and the fan brush to create grass.
