Benicia's Waterfront

A local artist approached me while I was painting this acrylic on birch panel (16 x 24"), to mention this was "one of the most painted views in the area." "Very original I guess I'm not!" I thought. What can I say, artists like rotted, rusty, old things, the trashier the better. There's beauty in them, and so most of us were attracted to this spot. What I didn't count on was the weather, but I'm sure my collaborators will fill you in on that. The details did consume all of my three hours, maybe more. Even my trail mix melted (but I didn't realize it), so I ended up smeared in chocolate thinking it was [the pigment] burnt umber. Rebeca

  1. Rebeca - the water in this is really alive. I get the same dizzy motion in your waves as I do when I'm there. All the detail is well worth your effort!

  3. That's great - if I don't see y'all on the 23rd in Benicia - I'm probably going to be late but the rest of the painters will be there! I'll also try and drive down to Annie's at lunch time on the 31st (I work in Richmond). That's a great place!!

  5. This was very original....because Joy's Cove Moving Co changes all the time! I'm sure it looks different next time you visit. Such a great painting and capturing all the rusted knick-knacks from a distance. I knew exactly where you painted :)
