The tiny lake was swarming with small children and their parents. We took a less popular trail which was quite muddy and arrived at the southern shore, almost at the water's level. My chair kept sinking in the mud. Towards noon several preschool-age kids started visited us. Their completely uncensored comments were so much fun I almost forgot the hard time I was having with this painting. It was a 16 x 20" canvas I had previously scraped, and I should have not used pthalo blue at all. I just wasn't very focused and I think the water could have come out a lot better had I been more conscious of what I was doing. Rebeca
The painting is not the phthalo blue, that sets off the foreground. I really like the trees. You could still modify the dark. Carmine and phthalo green make a very dark too, I don't know if you can glaze over it with something.
ReplyDeleteGreat mood in this one! The abstracted blue forest in the background and the answering dark brown form in the water create a lot of drama. The foreground tree shapes have beautifully delicate color, with the turquoise and pink and light green, etc., shading into each other. The tiny people lend a sense of scale, but I'm glad they aren't more distracting, as I'm entranced by the larger, more abstract forms.
ReplyDeleteLove the portrait format for this landscape and especially like your water, and the reflections. The bare trees to the left are wonderfully dramatic too and I actually like the really dark background.
