It was very busy at Miller Knox for the Labor Day holiday. I started a painting of the trees beyond the laggoon with the Bay behind but soon had a young girl and her sister looking over my shoulder asking questions. Her questions were so good and she was so interested in the process of painting I didn't have the heart to shoo her away. Instead I started another painting with her as the focal point. She stood perfectly still for me. When she left to eat lunch I finished and changed the figure quite a bit so that when she came back I think she was disapointed that it didn't look more like her and we had a good conversation about that.

Karen,
ReplyDeleteI really like the group of lavender trees in the background. They look very spontaneous and etherial, and the brushmarks remind me of a monotype.

The young girl was completely enthralled by what you were doing and I really like the composition of this piece with the figure central to the composition and totally focussed on the viewer. Like the shadowy bridge in the background too. Fran
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you took the time from your painting to not only interact with your audience but include her in your painting! I like all the waterbird activity in the lagoon behind her! The geese and seagulls can be really persistant (the kids too)! LOL
ReplyDeleteYes, it is quite a challenge to talk with your sitter, and in particular duing plein air, but I saw the little girl and I think you captured her essence and even body posture.
ReplyDeleteI think this painting is highly salable. Or should I say, this painting would tempt me to buy it.
