Miller Knox Park
Beautiful weather and lots of wonderful groups of trees. Sketch on left is of a group I noticed last time I was here. They stand as a long ‘organized’ clump opposite the pond before the bay and cast interesting shadows. Sketch on right is looking towards the 2nd car park and was a much quicker piece (about 25 minutes). Some inquisitive children were lovely to talk to and I encouraged them all to keep sketching and doing their art. Two in particular were really keen. Hope they manage to keep going before the education system squashes it out of them. This is a great location and has so much variety – looking forward to next time. Wow! What a treat. I love the colors and brushwork. I especially like it because you painted what I originally had intended before I was interrupted.
ReplyDeleteFran I tried to pst a comment earlier but for some reason it didn't show up, but the gist of it is that I love the blocks of color you are using in your paintings. They always remind the viewer of the painted nature of the piece, and it all fuses in the eye, to give it the feeling of a particular place and time. I am also interested in the size you are using, because you are doing so well within its confines.
ReplyDeleteHi Fran - great subjects those lagoon trees! Everything around there seems to group together: trees, geese, pigeons, kids! It gives me a sense of the languid pool and its reflections, the suggestion of distant hills beyond the water. I like the winding path through the trees toward the parking lot - dappled with sun through the shady spots. It's a really nice place to paint when it warms up and we've had good picnics here too.
ReplyDeleteFran, I like the colors as other said, and I like the feeling of place surrounded by water, a separate, somewhat isolated, special place with some mystery about it. I want to go there.
